my design journey:
I began my graphic design journey as a freshman at Whitney High School in 2018 under the mentorship of an amazing teacher, who inspired my passion for design. Over four years, I took every available graphic design course and served as a teaching assistant for three classes, gaining a solid foundation in design principles and software.
After high school, I worked full-time at a print and graphic design shop. This role provided hands-on experience with the printing process and allowed me to develop my design skills in a professional setting. It was also during this time that I launched nathanmsdesigns, my own freelance graphic design business, where I have worked on a variety of projects, ranging from branding to digital media.
While pursuing a double major in Business Marketing and Graphic Design at Sierra College, I expanded my skill set by teaching at an after-school program. I taught children aged 3 to 16 in subjects like drawing, website development, and LEGO robotics, which honed my ability to communicate complex concepts in an engaging and accessible way.
Currently, I am employed by Sacramento State University as the lead graphic designer for the SASEEP program. In this role, I work closely with other programs, including the SWANA Center, for which I designed all of the branding, and the BCE and EOP centers, where I assist with designing flyers, t-shirts, and social media posts.
I am also advancing my studies at Sacramento State University in the highly competitive Graphic Design program. After an intense portfolio selection process, I was accepted into the program and am now majoring in Graphic Design with a minor in Business Marketing. This blend of creative and strategic skills is preparing me for a dynamic career in the design industry.
